Geneva has over 30 parks and recreational areas throughout the city and along the river.  Within the parks, residents can enjoy disc-golfing, fishing, biking, swimming and playing various sports.  Along the river, you can find many running trails that can also be used for cross – country skiing in the winter.  At Harold Quarry Beach, you can enjoy the hot summer days swimming and playing with the kids in the water playground.  For    that offer activities such as baseball, tennis, skate parks, disc golf and miniature golf and bike trails.  Along with the parks, there are also two public swimming pools with water playgrounds.  For those that enjoy bird – watching and nature hikes, Red Oak Nature Center offers a variety of sight – seeing trails and fun for the whole family.

 

School/Health/Transportation

Children in Batavia attend school in the Batavia Public School District 101, which houses six elementary, one middle and one high school.  The district is considered to be in the top three in Kane County, with an overall grade of an ‘A’, and boasts many accolades such as being ranked in the top 15 districts for athletes in the state and in the top 30 for overall best district.  In total, there are about 6,003 students in the district in grades PK – 12.  There are also three K – 8 private schools in the city.  

Located just three miles away in next door Geneva is Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital which includes a state-of-the-art cancer center.  Airports, an Amtrak station and the Metra are all easily accessible, making traveling quite convenient.  Being only about 50 miles from Chicago, travelers can choose to get downtown by driving or taking the Metra’s red – line out of Geneva.  For getting out of town, the Amtrak out of Naperville is only 30 minutes away.  Both O'Hare International Airport and Midway International are less than an hour away and between the two airports travelers can get to just about anywhere in the world.       

 

Shopping/Dining

Batavia has invested a lot of time and heart into re-developing its downtown and main street and the change shows in all of its restaurants and pubs.  Restaurants such as Gammon Coach House and Rivers Edge offer extensive menus with an entertaining ambiance and laid back atmosphere.  For those who like something a little different, look no further than Verita and Tusk Thai Cuisine.  Both restaurants are exceedingly popular with the locals and have the menus to prove it.

The shopping in Batavia does a wonderful job of showcasing the town’s rich history and charm.  Local shops such as 715 Vintage offer unique vintage goods from local artisans and vendors.  There are also stores that boast higher fashion, such as Special Occasions.  There, customers can look for the perfect dress or tuxedo for any situation.  To shop national retailers, all you have to do is visit neighboring Geneva and shop at Geneva Commons, which is an upscale outdoor mall and entertainment district.  Here, shoppers can take advantage of the over 80 retailers and restaurants from Crate and Barrel to Banana Republic.  There are also events ongoing at the Commons, with the likes of sunset yoga and children’s activities.

 

Living
