15-Year Fixed Mortgages at Record Low

by nicolesmith

Mortgage rates are sharply lower. Experts say this is based on the news of a weakening job market. The 30-year fixed loan averaging 3.88 percent, and perhaps more importantly, the 15-year fixed is at a record low of 3.11 percent, according to Freddie Mac.

15-Year Fixed Mortgages at Record Low

The 15-year mortgage is fairly popular with homeowners who are refinancing and attempting to pay off their loans. Just recently the previous record low was set on Mar. 8 this year, at 3.13 percent. The start rates for adjustable mortgages changed very little. by nicolesmith

Top 10 Home Improvements

When selling your home in the Chicago area, you've got to stand out from the guy next door. Here are ten home improvements that will add value to your home and help your chance of selling your house. Front entry doors: As you already may know, curb appeal is a major tool selling your house. Install a high quality, beautiful-looking door. Attic bedroom: If you convert your attic to a bedroom, you add more bedrooms to the house and more living space.  Decks: To some people’s surprise, building a deck is one of the least-expensive ways to add to your living space. Siding: Fix up the exterior of your home by repairing or replacing siding for an eye-catching, protective finish. Kitchen: The kitchen is the heart of the home. The appearance and layout can often be a deal-breaker. Be honest with yourself whether or not your kitchen needs some updating. Windows: Installing replacement windows or even energy-efficient windows that will bring about valuable energy tax credits for you and lower energy bills for the buyer. Basement: Once an over-sized, at-home storage unit, the basement is a multi-functional space for the family these days. Think of it as a potential bonus room Bathroom: Like the kitchen, ask yourself if your bathroom needs an update. Backup power generator: With the aging electrical grid becoming less dependable, having backup power is becoming more crucial. Additions: Bigger is better. Add a second story, expand into a master suite, enlarge the garage or create an extra bathroom.
