The End Of East Main/ Rte.64 Construction is Near!

Expect More Delays With More Paving on East Main/Route 64, but not for much longer!

Work is on schedule for substantial completion of the western leg of the three-year reconstruction project in St. Charles by late August and the eastern leg by Oct. 1, according to St. Charles Public Works Engineering Division Manager Jim Bernahl.

The western leg of the project — from 7th Avenue to Kirk Road — should be substantially complete by late August. That means all major construction activities would be done with the exception of final restoration and various punch-list items.

The eastern section of the project — which extends all the way to Route 59, should be substantially complete by Oct. 1. Substantial completion would include all major construction activities, except for such things as vegetation — due to the lateness of the season — and punch-list-types of items.

Free Concert at the RiverPark in Geneva

“Need to be Seen” Live Radio Theatre, at 6:30 pm July 28, is free to the public, sponsored by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission.  It is the last of the 2013 RiverPark Series, so if you enjoyed the first 3 events (or missed them!) you should attend this one. The performances take place in the outdoor amphitheater overlooking the Fox River.

Concert-goers should bring folding chairs or picnic blankets for the amphitheater and lawn.  In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the United Methodist Church, 211 Hamilton St. Geneva. The RiverPark is located on the Fox River in the heart of Geneva. It is 1 1/2 blocks north of Route 38 on North River Lane. More information is available online at riverparkofgeneva.com

CIVIL WAR CELEBRATION COMES TO THE DEPOT MUSEUM, BATAVIA, IL

The Depot Museum in Batavia is one of more than 1,800 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense. The free admission program is available to all current and former military personnel and up to five of their family members.

The Batavia Depot Museum’s exhibit “Red, White & Blue” focuses on the day in the life of a soldier. The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 1. The exhibit ends just in time for the Depot Museum’s Civil War celebration on the Batavia Riverwalk Sept 7 and 8.  Visitors can talk with civilians and soldiers in period dress, experience what the “Batavia Boys of 1862-1864” went through as they lived and died during America’s civil war. The event will lead you through the past so you can better understand the war’s impact on Batavia and the Fox Valley.

The Batavia Depot Museum is not just a joint venture of the Batavia Park District and the Batavia Historical Society, but a community accomplishment of a people who are proud of their historical past and consequently of themselves. The museum hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m., March through November. Other hours by appointment. Chris Walk - 5K Run/1M Walk, Batavia Riverwalk

The Chris Walk 5K Run/1M Walk will have Music, Food, Vendor fair, Clown, Facepainting, Caricature artistmore. This is a Family Friendly Event. Registration for the 5K is $25.There is no charge for the 1-mile walk; however, pledges are encouraged. Proceeds will be donated to local substance abuse prevention programs. Saturdays at Primrose Farm, St. Charles

Come out to Primrose Farm on Saturdays for a variety of programs. Each program is designed for ages 4 and up and those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Fees for individual programs vary, but are generally around $5 for residents and $ 7.50 for non-residents of the St. Charles Park District. On site registrations are accepted. Drop-in programs include Farm Story Time (10-11am), Chicken and Egg (11-noon),  Feed the Animals (2-3 pm), and Drop-in Tours (available from 10-3 pm), choose one or a few! On your way out, visit the Farm Stand located at the farm’s entrance off Crane Road.

Midsummer Theater Troupe comes to Island Park, Geneva

On Saturday, July 20, the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission will host a free Ravina-style performance of Shakespeare in the Park at Island Park. The performance begins at 6 pm with seating starting at 5 pm. The Midsummer Theater Troupe will perform The Comedy of Errors. This Shakespearean classic features two sets of twins, mistaken identities, and the comical situations that ensue.

Admission to Shakespeare in the Park is free; a $5 donation is suggested. Free parking is available at the government center on First Street. It’s just a short walk across the covered bridge across the Fox River to Island Park. Blankets, chairs, and picnics are welcome.
