The city of Elgin was founded in 1835 and built its early reputation by providing dairy and butter for the city of Chicago, which is a short 35 miles away.  The dairy industry became less valued in the city as time went by and with the incorporation of the Elgin Watch Company.  At its prime, the company was once the largest fine watch manufacturer in the country.  Today, Elgin boasts a continuously growing downtown along the Fox River that attracts many businesses and residential developments.  With a population of 112,456, it is the eighth largest city in the state.

Advocate Sherman Hospital and Amita Health Saint Joseph are the two main hospitals in Elgin.  They both offer many specialties and quality emergency rooms.  Traveling out of Elgin is made simple when taking the Metra or the Amtrak out of nearby Naperville.  When needing to fly out of town, O'Hare International Airport or Midway International are just minutes away and can take travelers anywhere in the world that they desire.
