Sugar Grove was discovered in 1834 but wasn’t incorporated until 1957 with a population of 125.  Being predominately a farming town, the village began to develop itself when housing began to rise east of Route 47.  Eventually, the village built its own banks, fire stations and schools and became the first fire department in the Midwest to have active firewomen on their staff.  Today, Sugar Grove has a population of about 9,000, which continues to increase.    

 

Parks and Recreation in Sugar Grove Illinois

There are over 15 perfectly maintained parks throughout Sugar Grove.  Within these parks, residents can take advantage of the many trails, playgrounds, basketball courts, dog areas, baseball fields, picnic gazebos, volleyball courts and more.  For those who enjoy exercising off of the beaten path, the Aurora West Forest Preserve offers trails through prairies and woodlands and offers wonderful sight-seeing and dogs are welcome off-leash.

Nearby, Blackberry Farm is a perfect location for families to spend a day of adventure and exploration.  Taking you back to the 1840’s, the farm demonstrates what it was like to live in the Fox River Valley when the area was established.  Families can enjoy activities such as riding the steam train, going on a paddle boat, riding ponies and going on hayrides.  There are also three private and public golf courses in town for all members of the family to enjoy.

 

Sugar Grove Illinois School/Health/Transportation

The children in Sugar Grove attend school in the  West Aurora School District 129 and Kaneland Community Unit School District #302.  There are a total of 12,316 in District 129, which serves five communities and contains 10 elementary schools, 4 middle schools and 1 high school.  It ranks in the top ten most diverse districts in the state and is in the top 15% of districts in the states for athletes.  District 302 is comprised of 4,518 students and contains four elementary, one middle and one high school.  It is considered to be in the top ten school districts in the area.

There are two major hospitals nearby in next door Aurora, Rush Copley Medical Center and AMITA Health Mercy Medical Center Aurora.  Patients are given top-of-the-line care at each hospital with highly rated emergency rooms, a cancer centers and a birthing clinic.  Residents can travel anywhere in the world when flying out of O'Hare International Airport or Midway International, which are both less than an hour away.  Traveling out of town is also possible via the Metra, which is located Aurora, or the Amtrak in either Plano or Naperville. 

 

Shopping/Dining Options in Sugar Grove Illinois

There are many quality restaurants located in town that everyone in the family will enjoy.  Paisano's Pizza and Grill has some of the best pizza in the area and prides itself on its quality menu both for dining in the restaurant and for catering.  Calamity Jane's Bar and Restaurant and Open Range Southwest Grill are both family-style restaurants that are always entertaining and cater to families and parties alike.  And The Fireside Grill provides guests with a finer style of dining with a warm atmosphere and extensive drink menu.

There two exception malls located just outside of town in Aurora where shoppers can enjoy high-end and national retailers.  There are over 170 stores located at the Chicago Premium Outlets, making it easy for shoppers to find whatever they’re looking for.  You can shop at Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, Restoration Hardware and many more.  There is also the Fox Valley Mall, which offers more than 125 premium retailers for the whole family.
